Bookvault EUDR Update

With only a few weeks left before EUDR is going into force, this is a quick update on the situation as of now:

• Currently, there is no agreement on a delay, so the legislation is currently still due to come into effect on 30th December 2025
• After initially proposing a delay, the EU Commission then changed tack in October and has proposed going ahead on the original date, but delaying enforcement until end June 2026, and reducing requirements for small and micro businesses within the EU. This does reduce the burdens on EU businesses, but unfortunately has no positive impact on businesses outside of the EU who still need to be sending compliant products at the end of 2025 with the required Due Diligence Statements and TARIC codes in place as appropriate
• The EU Council, meanwhile, has now come to a different position – to delay the legislation a full year and to have a review into whether further simplification should take place
• The EU Parliament, for their part, is due to vote 25-27th November and if they and the EU Council can come to an agreed position between them, then the legislation does look likely to be delayed whatever the wishes of the EU Commission. However, there is no guarantee that the parliament will agree with the Council’s position, as opinion over what happens next appears so divided, so it remains the case that anything could happen, including no delay at all

Publishers and authors should remain assured that Bookvault still expect to be able to comply with whatever the legislation looks like by the time it comes into effect. Bookvault remains in close contact with its suppliers and should be able to provide Due Diligence Statements for books so they can clear customs, and publishers can use those details in their feeds as required. As soon as there is more clarity about the legislation, Bookvault will post a further update on this site
