Royal Mail Strikes

Postal workers for Royal mail have opted to take action regarding pay and working conditions. The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has rejected a wage rise of 5.5 per cent as this falls significantly below current inflation figures; of which surpass 10%.

As a result, workers have arranged to strike for four days in August and September. The following dates will be affected by these strikes:

·         Friday 26th August
·         Wednesday 31st August
·         Thursday 8th September
·         Friday 9th September

Royal mail has subsequently vowed to minimise the interruptions to their operations, but suggests that customers should expect significant disruptions nonetheless. They have stated their contingency plan will consist of prioritizing the deliveries of Covid-19 test kits and medical prescriptions, they plan to deliver as many special delivery and tracked 24 parcels as possible at the cost of not delivering letters (unless they are special delivery)
