Here at Bookvault we can produce your book in any size. It’s your book so it’s your choice.
The Standard
Our standard book size is 197mm by 132mm. This is the most popular book size for most of our authors and booksellers. If your book is more of a novel, then you may choose to opt for our novel-sized book. This is 203mm by 127mm. It’s the most popular size for trade paperbacks here in the UK.
Pocket Books & Smaller Novels
If you are publishing a pocketbook or would like a smaller novel, then you may prefer our A5 book size. This is 210mm by 148mm. If you can’t quite picture the size, think of a traditional notebook, or a standard greetings card. Our demy books are slightly larger than UK trade books. They are a popular size for books sold in an airport. This is because the larger size helps them stand out more. They are only a little bit smaller than our A5 books, at 216mm by 138mm.

The US Market & Hardbacks
Are you selling your book to an American audience? In which case you may want to opt for our US Royal book size. This is 229mm by 152mm. Generally speaking, American trade books come in this bigger size, so it’s what your audience should be used to. If you are publishing a hardcover book, then you may want to choose our Royal book size. This is slightly larger than the US Royal at 234mm by 156mm.
Magazines & Catalogues
For books that are more like magazines or catalogues in their style or content, you may prefer our A4 book size. This measures 297mm by 210mm. It is a recognisable size of books and catalogues. We can also offer square book sizes, measuring 210mm by 210mm. This book size is ideal for full-bleed images and perfect for landscape or portrait formatting.

If you’re still not sure whether any of these are right for your book, then help is at hand. Here at Bookvault, we are the home of flexible services. We can create a custom-sized book to be published in the exact size you choose.
But What Size Should You Choose? What Size Should Your Book Be?
Above we have listed the general rule of thumb for book sizes. However, just because that is what all the other authors are going for, it doesn’t mean that’s the book size you need to choose.
The size of your book should be based on what you like, and what your target audience wants. There are some other points that you may want to consider. For example, as well as your target audience you need to think about the word count. There are also more common sizes of books for different genres.
From a business perspective, the bigger a book is, the more it will cost. As you can see from our website (https://bookvault.app/cost-to-print-your-book/) each book has a different cost. You need to think about how much you want to charge for your book, and how much you will make on each sale too.
While it’s good to have a different book that stands out, you need to consider if the production cost of having a custom-sized book is worth it. You could end up losing your investment in a custom sized book if it’s not the book size that your audience wants.
